Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Long Island Youth Safety Coalition – Internet Safety and Bullying Prevention Conference
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY
The recent passage of the New York State Education Law on Internet Safety and Appropriate Use (Education Law Section 814) empowers the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to provide assistance and resources to schools concerning the safe and responsible use of the Internet. The NYSED Office of Educational Design and Technology has developed a program evaluation rubric to assist school administrators and educators in defining the degree to which schools have integrated Internet Safety and adapted its Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) into its standards-based instructional program. The toolkit also includes an alignment of the New York State Learning Standards to include components of Internet Safe Usage in all standard areas; and, a Call for Content to gather sample lesson plans and learning experiences incorporating Internet safety instruction across all subject areas.
